6 Then I saw another angel flying in mid air, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth–to every nation, tribe, language and people.
7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the springs of water.”
8 A second angel followed and said, “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great, which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”
9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand,
10 he, too, will drink of the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
11 And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.”
12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.
The first angels’ message is a call to worship God as the Creator which is a call to Sabbath observance.
The message of the second angel warns God’s people that this wicked system will depart further and further from the truth in consequence of her refusal of the light of the end-time gospel message. Only when “union of the church with the world shall be fully accomplished throughout Christendom, will the fall of Babylon will be complete.” –Ellen White. The Great Controversy, p. 360.
The conclusion of the proclamation of God’s final message will result in a great separation that divides people of the world into two camps; those who love and obey God and those who follow and obey the beast. The issue in these messages is over the authority of God, or the authority of the beast. It is over who we worship; God or the beast? The question is: What does the Bible say a beast represents? Because if we don’t know what the beast represents we will never know what it’s mark is. The Bible is its own interpreter. To answer the question we have to go to the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. : Dan 7:2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
Dan 7:3 “And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.” So what do these beasts represent? Dan 7:17 “These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.” So according to Daniel’s vision they are four kings that arise out of the earth. According to Daniel 2 which describes a metal image of four different metals is: Babylon, Media- Persia, Greece and Rome. Daniel was concerned about the fourth beast which was diverse from all the others, about the ten horns on its head and particularly about the little horn that came up speaking blasphemies and making war with God’s Saints. (read verses 19 – 21.) during the middle ages the State Church changed God’s Ten Commandments and openly declare that it is the Mark of their authority.
