The Pearl of Great Price

During Jesus ministry to those living around Jerusalem, Jesus was describing to his

Disciples and those who were listening, He was describing what the Kingdom of God was like.

In Matthew 13:44  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hid and for joy thereof goeth and sold all that he hath, and bought that field.

45  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

46  Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

So what is Jesus trying to tell those around Him about obtaining heavenly riches and the Pearl of great price?

What Jesus is saying that He is the Pearl of Great Price, because to follow Him will cost everything we have. salvation is free, yes. But it also requires us to fully surrender our lives to Him. In following and loving Him may cost us family, friends, our job etc. . . .

When I accepted Jesus as my  Saviour it cost me my marriage, my wife divorced me, the house,  and the privilege of seeing my children grow up during their teens.

Also I had to live in a small caravan which was on the church property for around eighteen months.

At that time I was a  Semi-professional musician, I gave that up because a lot of gigs were on Friday and Saturday nights.

As He has said: Luke 14:26  If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

It may not be in monitory terms, it could be your time in serving Jesus.

Matthew  13:45  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

46  Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

I do have another take on this that you may not have thought of.

Is it possible that God could also be the Merchant man looking for Goodly Pearls? And that we are  the goodly pearls that God is seeking, which cost Him His life?

Isn’t Jesus the good shepherd?

Even the Bible says that God will make up His Jewels.  Malachi 3:17  And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18  Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

Luke 15:3  And he spake this parable unto them, saying,

4  What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?

5  And when he hath found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.

Malachi 3:17  And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him.

Psalm 116:15  Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
