The Story of the Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan

The Fall of Planet Earth

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

With the expulsion of Satan and  his followers from their abodes in heaven to hell. (Tartarus: Greek), which is a dark and gloomy world, a place of punishment for Satan and his angles.  ( 2 Peter 2:4) With the creation of planet earth, the opportunity came for Satan to try and usurp Adam’s authority on this new planet. It was agreed by Satan’s followers that Satan himself would be the direct tempter; the war continues on planet earth.

Genesis. 3:1  Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”2  The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,3  but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'”4  “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman.5  “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Here was a scene that all of unfallen and fallen creation looked on with baited breath. Satan himself was the instrument to try and usurp his authority on this new world. If he would be successful, this world would be his by default. And this world would become the headquarters of the dark side.

Gen.3:6  When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

The serpent was the medium that Satan used to entice Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit. And through his deceptive lies by telling Eve that she would not surely die, Satan successfully seduced Eve and disobey God’s command not to eat or touch it. God had forewarned Adam and Eve not to eat or even touch the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for if they did, they would surely die. The first lie told on this planet was the devil’s lie. And unfortunately, not only Eve believed him, but the immortality of the soul is believed and taught in most Christian Churches today.

Planet in Revolt

Suddenly this world was plunged into darkness, Adam and Eve saw themselves in a different light. They looked on each other and saw that they were naked, and proceeded to sew fig leaves to hide their nakedness. And when God came down to the earth to converse with them, they went and hid themselves.

Satan and his angels thought that they had the victory and revenge over God and the unfallen angels, and this world plunged into darkness and rebellion of the dark side.

Such was the evil of the dark side, man became wicked and their thoughts were continuously evil all the time. This world had plunged into spiritual darkness where it was not possible to come face to face with the creator. So God came to abide with us through the Sanctuary in the OT, and now abides in our hearts in the New Testament.

The dark side gained a foot hold on this planet, and Satan began to seduce mankind into rebellion against God. So bad did it become that God had to intervene and flood the earth with water to drown all living creatures on this earth. It was through Noah who He commissioned to build an ark to save all who would go into the Ark and be saved. Unfortunately only Noah’s immediate family were saved along with the animals that went in two by two and by sevens. And also the advent of the Tower of Babel in which became the city of Babylon that the wicked built in opposition to God’s truth.

Through the dark side, Gross darkness engulfed this planet. But even after this catastrophic event, it wasn’t long before man started to be seduced by the dark side. Men started to build cities in different areas. God had to intervene in the building of the Tower of Babel.

Genesis 11:1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.2  As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.3  They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.4  Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

It was through the confusion of tongues, The builders of Babel dispersed.

5  But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.6  The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.7  Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”8  So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.9  That is why it was called Babel –because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Sodom and Gomorrah was two such cities which became so evil that God had to intervene again and destroyed both cities by fire and brimstone. Genesis 18, 19.

ISRAEL’S HISTORY

Looking at the history of Israel, God’s chosen people, it wasn’t long before Israel was seduced by the dark side. God had performed many marvellous miracles in bringing them out of Egypt. It was through the ten plagues on Egypt that God was able to set them free from their bondage. As Moses was receiving God’s Ten Commandment Law, Satan was able to seduce the Israelites into Idol worship which was strictly forbidden by God.

And so the history of mankind up until that time was full of rebellion and revolt. It seemed on the surface as if the attacks of the Satan and his angels were succeeding.
